Policy Brief, May 2025
This briefing outlined why there was a need to focus on young men’s mental health. It summarised some of the key findings arising from the project, and proposed five policy recommendations for consideration. These were: improving our understanding of young men’s mental health experiences; ensuring a gendered approach to mental health education in schools which encourages boys to safely explore the interaction between masculinities and mental health; providing inclusive and informal spaces for young men to connect over mental health; reviewing the range and availability of mental health supports to ensure they meet the needs of boys and young men before they reach crisis point and; increasing the accessibility of mental health research by directly involving boys and young men in coproducing the research.
