The Project

Men Minds aims to remove barriers to mental health research engagement for young men who are migrants, LGBTQI+ or in conflict with the law.

We will engage with up to 12 young men to form a Young People’s Forum, working with them to understand their thoughts and experiences about masculinities, mental health, wellbeing and help-seeking.

Together we will identify any barriers to participating in mental health research. We will also co-design more meaningful and accessible research methods and approaches for young men. Then, along with the Young People’s Forum, we will use their co-designed methods to conduct further research with a wider group of up to 80 young men.

Men Minds is led by Dr. Nina Vaswani of the Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice, along with colleagues from the Universities of Strathclyde, Monash (Melbourne) and The Mental Health Foundation.

Men Minds is funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) under the call: Advancing adolescent mental health and wellbeing research.

Men Minds started in January 2023 and will run for two years.  As the project develops we will use this website to communicate our progress, and to share resources as they become available.
